Sticky joystick

$

Just put together a Picade console with a Player X to act as a second joystick. Simple to get up and running, but the joystick is a bit sticky on the left/right, it feels more like an old X-Arcade joystick on that axis (i.e. horrible). I’ve checked that nothing is interfering with the movement underneath. Is there anything I should do to fix it or is it a bad joystick? Many thanks for any advice!

Edit: I removed the bottom plastic cover and the microswitches and the problem seems to be with the metal washer that sits flush in the plastic housing on the underside of the joystick. It is moving and getting stuck. Is it supposed to be glued in place?

Hot to add an USB joystick to New Picade for two players games

Hello everybody,
has anyone added a usb joystick to the New Picade to allow two players to play at the same time?
If so, how?

I tried setting them up on Retropie / Emulation Station in Configure Inputs but they both only move player 1.

Some idea?

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I finished my 10 inch picade. I can map the buttons in the emulationstation and can navigate there. Every Button works fine there.
But if I open a Game no more button is working for me. Did everyone had the same issue and a solution for me?

How do you keep the picade cabinet from moving around?

The cabinet is so light that it shifts around and sometimes even tips back a bit when being slightly aggressive with the stick. What does everyone here do to prevent the picade from shifting and rocking during play?

Batocera on Picade

Hello,
I bought a picade terminal and everything went well except for the rather tedious start-up.
I tried to run it with Batocera but I have no sound and the controls are not recognized. I know that normally you only have to install retropie but I much prefer Batocera. Is there a way to recognize controls and sound with Batocera without having to be a computer specialist?
Thank you for your answers.

Controls trouble

Hello,
I’m asking for your help because I think I’m going to go crazy. I installed a retropie image that I have been using for quite some time and which works perfectly with a usb and raspberry 3b controller. On the picade terminal, the controls are not recognized as necessary whatever the configuration. only the stick and 2 buttons work. I can’t add credit to run the games either. Anyway, I think I need to configure the controls in another menu.
Does anyone have a solution or has they experienced this problem before?
Sorry I’m not really familiar with Retropie and I’m really in trouble.
Thanks for your help.

Fixed color per button with Plasma LED (no sequencing)

$

Hello,

Since shortly I bought an 10" Picade with Plasma buttons. Spend some time to get all thing working
properly all together with Retropie.

Taking one step further; I’m just wondering if it’s possible to use RetroPie “runcommand” defined in “game-start scripts” to control the colors of the buttons (each button 1 fixed color)
Have tested with an “echo script” which works.

My idea is to script it something like Blinkt! using color variables instead of using the PNG file without an daemon running in the background because I’ve notice that the daemon is consumes almost 30% CPU and generate unnecessary heat within the cabinet.

In my mind I want something like this; When I start arcade game (NEOGEO style) the buttons will lit up in; for example A in GREEN, B in RED, C in BLUE and D is YELLOW and the rest is turned off or became lesser bright. When I leave the game, the plasma sequencing of colors starts again or all colors have the same color. and starting another style game the button colors change as well.

Putting a single color to all buttons it works. I’m not able to get an fixed color set per button.
not sure of this but it seems that the deamon is changing the color much quicker than I do …

Also the github is pointing me to check “Documentation and Support” for this product but it seems that http://docs.pimoroni.com/plasma/ and https://learn.pimoroni.com/plasma does not exist

Have a "novice-level of Python and trying figuring out where to start; I though perhaps I ask here around perhaps someone could point me into the right direction to write a small python script where I can define several lines of set_pixel(x, r, g, b, val) to define the fix colors of each button.

Thanks in advance!

Bluetooth Controller Issue on Picade [SOLVED]

Is it possible to use a bluetooth controller with Picade instead or in addition to the Joystick? I have SN30 Pro+ paired but I’m unable to use it on Picade. On my other retropie setup it works fine. Is there some setting I need to turn on or modify to make my controller work on Picade?

Edit: Solution was to use Emulationstation input to reset controller buttons…I forgot I reset configuration on them on new system.

Picade Controls Not Working

$

Hey guys,

I bought a new 10" picade and and built it up with a Raspberry Pi 4. None of the controls (joystick, buttons) work, even after the install script. When I am at the controller configuration screen, holding a button does nothing. When I hold a keyboard key, it behaves as it should. Backing out into the shell, using the “showkey” command also shows nothing for the joystick or keyboard.

Power button works on the X HAT, but maybe the X HAT otherwise is shot?

I’m using a wireless Logitech keyboard, K400r and running the latest fresh, version of RetroPie. Followed this tutorial: “https://learn.pimoroni.com/tutorial/hel/assembling-your-picade” as I have the late 2020 version that comes with Pico-8. Installed Picade X HAT using the command specified: “curl https://get.pimoroni.com/picadehat | bash”.

I can’t think of any more relevant details other than the external, yellow power button’s pins broke (they were sliding in and out) and maybe I caused some kind of short with either the LED or power? I have since disconnected sets of wires from the X HAT to the external power button

Thanks!

Picade X - poor sound quality

$

Hi, I’ve recently built the 10" Picade with the Picade X HAT. After a few hiccups in trying to configure it without a USB keyboard (I used the command line via SSH) I have a working system with one major problem: the sound quality is extremely poor.

For example, launching Defender has a constant scratching buzz. Other games such as Ms Pac Man have sounds delayed and voices out of sync with each other. Even moving up and down the list of games has a delay to the clicking sound.

I’m running the latest Retropie image as of yesterday.

Would anyone be able to advise me on where to start looking to debug this issue?

Thank you.

Picade shows a blank screen after I've installed the Picade HAT software

$

Ahoy there!

I’ve built my new 8 inch Picade and it’s a really lovely thing.

But I’ve got stuck after I installed the Picade HAT software but typing curl https://get.pimoroni.com/picadehat | bash at the command line.

Now when my Picade powers up it scrolls through some text stuff on the screen then at the point where I think Retropie should be trying to launch it just shows a blank screen. It’s definitely on, there’s just nothing on the display.

For info I’ve got a Raspberry Pi 4 with the latest Retropie version installed.

Any suggestions for what I should do now?

Side buttons to light up.
The software installed with no errors and I’ve wired up everything to match the instructions.

What am I missing??

Thanks

Old Picade Buttons with New Picade xHat

$

I am looking to upgrade my original Picade in the near future with a new screen and buttons.
However, before I get all the new parts I have a couple of questions:

  1. Can I use the new Picade xHat with a raspberry pi 3B?
  2. How do I get the old buttons to work with the new Picade xHat? The xHat has two holes for each button, but the buttons only have one wire each.

Is there anything else I need to get it to work?

Thanks

Richard

Kernal Panic on Shutdown after Hat install

$

Hello, everyone. I’ve come to see if I can get any help with a problem I am having with the Picade Hat. I have my picade all set up and it runs beautifully… until it comes time to shut down. Either using the power button, or shutting down the system from inside retropie is giving me a Kernal Panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init error. I tried a clean install of retropie and everything works fine until I install the picadehat with curl https://get.pimoroni.com/picadatehat | bash. Once that is installed, the error when shutting down appears again. Any ideas what it could be?

Alternative Controller profiles

Hi,
I’m slowly putting together a custom build of RetroPi for my Picade drawing on some inspiration from other custom builds and classic games from my youth.
While the joystick is good quality, the buttons less so (which will be replaced at some point). I would like to use an old XBOX 360 (wired) USB controller I have for some specific games.
Is it possible to have 2 controllers enabled and mapped at the same time for Player 1?
pressing a button when lauching the game just gives you the option to change emulator, so haven’t figured either to have both methods of controlling games mapped and available all the time or to switch on a game by game basis (I’m not planning on having 1000s of games).

Picade 10" cooling Pi 4

$

Hi all,

I have been bought a 10" Picade for my birthday recently. So I have bought a Pi 4 and power supply ready for the build but am concerned about cooling.

I bought an extra set of standoffs, a riser and a fan shim kit from Pimoroni but am wondering if I am just as well gluing some heatsinks to the Pi ?

The fan shim doesn’t seem to play nice with the x-hat from what I read but I am wondering if the heatsinks will also intefere with the x-hat ?

Just wanted some advice before I start the build.

Many thanks in advance for any help :)

PICADE not working 2021

$

Hi Guys,
Didn’t get any instructions with my new Picade, but set it up according to the videos. Had a faulty power button, had new one sent out. Attached it, light wired to LED, “ON” wired to the power button correctly. When I press the yellow power button, it doesn’t light up, but the picade hat does turn on. Nothing else happens.

I’d love to see the proper instructions sheet - is there a PDF? - but so far as I can tell, everything is done correctly and I’m stumped… Any one able to shed some light, super grateful!

regards,

Mark
