No audio devices after Picade-X install

$

After running the picadehat installer script, no audio devices are available. If you run raspi-config before running the installer, you see the usual options of selecting HDMI or headphones. After installing the picadehat software, it reports “no internal audio devices found”

This is with the latest RetroPie SD card image on a Raspberry Pi 3B+

I can see a few posts reporting similar problems on these forums, but no resolution. Anyone built a Picade recently and managed to get around this problem?

Sound using FPGA - I2S implamntion

HI there,

I’m trying to build the arcade machine using fpga (DE-10 lite) instead of raspberry pi, and encouter difficult implamnting the sound.
The SCLK, LRCLK, DS, 5V, 3V ports of GPIO are connected (as you can see in the picture) and the signals are as the protocol require, however when I try to play simple tone (1 KHZ) there is noise.
Are there any other ports of GPIO and data that needed to be in use (or someting else I’ve been missing)?
p.s I couldn’t find schematic of the picade, if there is one it will help to understand the issue.

Thanks

Can anyone help point me in the right direction to get my picade working so that I can control the volume in retropie using pulse audio. I know most people just remove pulse but I really need to use it for certain scenarios like nspawn etc.

Screen fades to black 10"

Hello!

Just built my picade yesterday and having troubles getting it to work very well at all. At first, i couldn’t change the volume in settings, whenever I changed it and got out of that menu it just reset to 0.
Playing ROMs worked tho, only problem is the volume is BLASTING at 100%.

I found a solution that is to remove the line: “dtparam=audio=off” from /boot/config.txt.
Very well, I can now change the volume and it saves as it should, but now when i try to start a ROM (or when going into some option menus from the retropie configuration interface) the screen just fades to black. Nothing happens until i press the power button which turns off the machine as usual (screen gets filled with the usual “turn off texts”).

I don’t really know what to do, I’ve tried reinstalling a couple times but am running into the same issue again and again.

edit:
I should clarify, I’m using a Raspberry pi 4, with the official power plug.

Can't reboot Picade

I am wondering if this is by design or I am missing something, but when I run ‘reboot’ via the console the Picade just shuts down. I have to hold the picade hat power button to power it up again.

Is there a way to reboot it without having to powering it up again?

Hello,

I cannot get the PICADE to detect the game pads. I get to the configure screen but cannot do anything further. Can anyone help? I have reinstalled Retropie. It tells me to ‘hold a button on your device to configure it’ but none of the picade buttons do anything.

Thank you
Charlotte

Hello, I have the 6 plasma button set. I followed the instructions and installed the software for the picade hat X. I am able to use the actual buttons but can’t get the led lights to turn on. I have tried rewiring at least a dozen times but nothing. Any clues to what else I can do besides smashing the LEDs with a hammer lol. Thank you

Any thoughts?

Problem with the screen adjustment keypad

$

Hello,

After having correctly mounted my picade, I encountered a small problem. I specify that everything else works. All buttons except those used to adjust the screen display (power, menu, next, exit, etc.). When I press on it nothing happens. I rechecked several times that the tablecloth was properly set. It is well embedded, however. I am using the latest version of Rétropie (4.7.1) on a Raspberry Pi 3 model B. Could this come from a problem with the drivers or do you think of a fault with the keypad or the cable? Thank you.

Player X USB Games Controller

Hi, I’m trying to find some documentation for the Player X USB games controller PCB from Pimoroni. I can’t find anything online, and hardly any videos or images of anyone really using it for reference.

My specific query is how to wire in the buttons. Does anyone know which way is correct? The only images I’ve seen have the switch wired like the lower diagram, however that doesn’t seem to match up with the PCB markings, so I’m thinking is the upper image actually correct?

Also can someone can confirm that the USB powers this device, i.e. I don’t need a separate 5V input to power it?

Hi,

I have an original (USB Micro B) Picade Hat connected to a Pi 3.

I want to upgrade my mini arcade to a Pi 4 and not sure if the original Picade Hat would provide enough power to the Pi 4, has anyone tried it or know if it works?

Many thanks.

Picade Console No Sound with Raspberry Pi 4

Hello,

I just bought the Picade Console at MicroCenter, installed the latest retropie build and xhat software. However, I get no sound from the speaker. If I go to Sound Settings in Emulation Station, Volume always goes to Zero no matter what setting I try. If I go to Raspi-Config, it says “no internal audio devices found”. I have read other posts but I don’t see a fix for this. I just want the speaker provided as part of the Picade to work. Does anyone have a fix?

Will a PiSugar interfere with the the Picade hat?

$

Hello all, I picked up a PiSugar to battery power another Pi but that didn’t workout for irrelevant reasons. So now I’m wondering if I would be able to slap this into my Picade without GPIO conflicts.

This is the PiSugar: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Platform-Raspberry-Accessories-handhold/dp/B09MJ876FW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=20NAY9MQCWRX0&keywords=pisugar3&qid=1645581959&sprefix=pisugar3%2Caps%2C199&sr=8-3

There is an I2C chart for the PiSugar but my understanding is fairly limited, so if someone can explain it that would help out a lot.

My second question is what battery capacity is reasonable for a stock clock Pi4 in the Picade? The PiSugar comes with a 5,000mah battery, but it can be swapped out. For some context I would hope for at least 2 hours battery life. I don’t plan on making this portable it’s only so I don’t have to be tethered to a wall.

Bonus question ( I don’t expect this to get answered here, but while I’m here…) is anyone familiar with adding a power switch to the PiSugar?

If anyone is able to help I would greatly appreciate it.

Problem updating my picade

$

I booted my 10" picade up after having storaged it in the basement the last two years.
I tried updating retropie via the OS, but something went wrong, and I decided to just do a full re-install.
But after getting the display to work (had to dig deep to remember to remember the HDMI force hotplug) I could not get the picade hat to work, and I keep geeting a " apt failed to update indexes" message.
Any ideas on what to do?

Picade screen upgrade

$

Hi. I purchased a picade with the tiny 8" diag 61/2" wide viewable screen when first released years ago.
Love it but screen was way too small. My kids started using it so decided to upgrade to the 10" screen.
Why when everyone shows the 10" screen they actually have the 12" installed? Anoying.
Even pimorini website clearly shows 10" viewable screen filling whole cabinet.
I’ve always known screens are measured diagonally. I looked on the website and saw pic of 8" upgrade which would be 10" diag and pic of 10" screen filling whole cabinet. Presumed they measured by width so ordered the 10" only to realise it’s the 8" wide 10" diagonal screen. Not what I wanted but serves me right surfing the net at four in the morning after work. Scrolled down the description to find screen dimensions don’t match pics. Slightly misleading to show different pictures.
Search is on for a bright bigger screen lol
